We're hiring a Software Engineer (3-4 years experience) to help build and scale the systems our users rely on every week. This role is backend-focused — you'll spend most of your time on API design, contest logic, third-party integrations, and data pipelines — while also contributing to the frontend when needed. This is a remote role based anywhere in South Africa.

Tech Stack:

TypeScript as our programming language of choice. NestJS as our backend framework. GraphQL as our API runtime. TypeORM for database access and migrations. Postgres as our database. Redis for caching. Bull to manage background tasks and queues. Digital Ocean for cloud infrastructure and deployments. New Relic and Sentry for logging and monitoring. GitHub to manage our source code.

What you'll do: Design and implement GraphQL APIs that power our Fantasy Football, Predictor, and Numbers products. Own real-money contest logic, settlement flows, and payout processing. Build and maintain integrations with sportsbook partners and live sports data feeds. Write and manage TypeORM migrations and keep our data models clean and performant. Design background job pipelines using Bull to handle contest processing and scheduled tasks. Help scale our systems on Digital Ocean to handle growing user load. Contribute to architecture decisions and backend design discussions. Write fully tested, high quality, and performant backend code. Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback. Debug and resolve production issues quickly.

You should apply if: 3-4 years of professional backend development experience. Strong TypeScript skills — our entire stack is built on it. Solid experience with NestJS or a comparable Node.js backend framework. Hands-on experience with GraphQL API design and implementation. Comfortable working with relational databases (Postgres) and writing migrations. You have experience developing, releasing, and maintaining services in a fast-paced, iterative environment. You have a deep understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and best practices. You have strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have: Experience with TypeORM or similar ORM libraries. Familiarity with Digital Ocean infrastructure (Droplets, Managed Databases, Spaces). Experience with payments, fintech, gaming, or other high-transaction systems. Exposure to third-party API integrations at scale. An interest in sport.
