Magic Safari is one of those “we’re either going to change the industry or explode on impact” bets. And we’re now looking for a super strong engineer to join the team.

We’re still in stealth, so the pitch for the company is basically “trust me bro”. What I can tell you is that we’re certainly not short on ambition - we’re doing what would have been four separate startups a few years ago. The company is profitable and some of Africa’s top luxury lodges are already using our software.

Malan Joubert, Louw Hopley, Chris Lemmer and I have all started companies before and we’re being quite deliberate about the kind of culture we’re creating. Our culture is clearly laid out on our careers page and handbook, so poke around our website. The tl;dr is that we're here to ship, not explore our feelings.

So what is this engineering role about?

Currently safari planning is conversational. Planning a safari requires human conversations with a dozen suppliers to discover availability, pricing, routing constraints, and rules. It's slow, error prone, and expensive. Magic Safari makes planning computable, so trips can be planned in minutes instead of hours or days.

To do that we need data. Lots of data. The problem is that this data is sprinkled across booking systems, rate sheets, spreadsheets, PDFs, media folders, websites and inboxes (if it even exists at all).

To solve this problem, we’re going to give you 10+ Claude Code Max 200 accounts and we need you to create beautiful data pipelines. If this sounds like an exciting challenge and you’re ready to work in a team with unreasonable expectations, then please apply.

I’ll link the job in the comments below. It’s called “Data Engineer” but don’t take the title too seriously.
