careers@bitcube.tech---> About this role <---
This is not a conventional senior developer role. We are hiring Senior Software Engineers into our new AI- accelerated delivery pods — a small, senior-weighted team that delivers complex software engagements differently to how the industry has done it for the past decade.
Inside the pod, this role is called an Orchestrator. We are not hiring engineers to write code in the traditional sense. We are hiring senior engineers to use AI tooling to amplify their own judgement and experience,, build substantive output through that direction, and peer-review the work of another senior engineer alongside structured tooling support. The skill is specification, judgement, and validation.
If you are an experienced engineer who has been using AI tools seriously in your work over the last 18 months, who has developed an instinct for when AI is right and when it is subtly wrong, and who is tired of working in environments that haven't caught up with what is now possible, this role is built for you.
If you want clear instructions, short feedback loops, story points to count, and a project manager telling you what to do every day, this role will be uncomfortable.
---> What you will do <---
You will work as one of two Orchestrators in a pod of four technical members supported by a client Lead (Lead Orchestrator, yourself and one other Orchestrator, and a part-time QA Engineer). The pod delivers Bitcube's premium client engagements — complex software builds, platform migrations, AI-enabled product features, and similar.
Day to day, you will:
- Direct AI tooling (Claude Code, Gemini, CodeRabbit, and our internal CLI) to produce substantive software output, then review and validate that output rigorously before it ships. All AI use in Bitcube delivery operates within our existing AI Acceptable Use Policy and AI Development Standard, governed by our ISO 42001 management system. You will be working within that framework, not improvising outside it.
- Peer-review the other Orchestrator's work with structured tooling support. Every meaningful piece of output is reviewed by a second senior engineer before it reaches the client. The peer review is a design feature, not a checkbox. -Translate written specifications into executable architecture and design decisions. The pod operates under heavier-than-usual upfront specification rigour, and you will be part of producing and refining that specification. -Engage directly with clients during demo cycles and milestone reviews. The Client Lead owns the relationship, but you are senior enough to be in the room and answer for the work.
- Contribute to the orchestration playbook — the documented patterns, prompt templates, and review checklists that compound across engagements. The first pod is also writing the methodology, and you will be part of that.
You will not be:
- Writing daily status reports against time logs.
- Filling in utilisation trackers or hour-by-hour task records.
- Working under a Technical Project Manager.
---> How we measure output <---
Pod work is judged on outcomes, not just hours. What we measure is whether milestones land on time, at quality, against the agreed scope. Peer review quality and client satisfaction.
A scoping week might be 30 hours of focused, high-judgement work. A milestone delivery week might be 50. Sometimes the milestone lands early and the week ends Thursday afternoon. Sometimes the work is harder than expected and Friday runs long.
This model assumes mature, self-directed senior engineers — including knowing when to push hard and, equally importantly, when to step back. It does not work for people who need structure imposed from outside, and it does not work for people who treat the absence of structure as an invitation to coast.
---> What we are looking for <---
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience in production environments.
- Strong, demonstrable proficiency across at least two of: modern JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js, React, Angular, or Vue), Python, C#, or comparable production languages. Polyglot pragmatism matters more than depth in a single stack.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and the trade-offs involved in production engineering at scale.
- Genuine, current, hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Aider, or similar) in real production work.
- The ability to read AI-generated code critically.
- Strong written communication.
- Maturity to operate without daily supervision.
Strongly preferred:
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern deployment practices (containerisation, infrastructure as code, CI/CD).
- Familiarity with one or more of: backend API development, frontend application architecture, mobile development, data engineering, or AI/ML integration.
- Experience in agency, consultancy, or product team environments where you have engaged with clients directly.
- Familiarity with ISO 27001 or ISO 42001 frameworks, or other governance and compliance work.
---> What we offer <---
- The opportunity to be a leading engineer in Bitcube's AI-accelerated delivery model.
- A senior, deliberately small team. Two Orchestrators, a Lead Orchestrator, and a part-time QA Engineer. No junior developers to shepherd.
- Compensation on a different track to traditional delivery. Higher base salary than equivalent senior roles in conventional engineering teams, plus quarterly outcome-based variable compensation tied to pod-level delivery and client satisfaction outcomes.
- Direct involvement with clients at milestone reviews and demo cycles. You will not be hidden behind a project manager.
- A working environment that treats AI tooling seriously without being naive about it. We hold ISO 42001 certification for our AI management systems.
- Flexi-time within a hybrid model: Tuesday to Friday in our Cape Town office, Mondays remote.
- Bitcube's broader benefits, including the certifications, training, and platform investment that come with being a senior engineer at a UK-led, ISO-certified delivery company.

Send your CV and a short note (not a formal cover letter — a paragraph or two is enough) to careers@bitcube.tech.
The note should answer one question directly: what is the most interesting piece of work you have done with AI coding tools in the last twelve months, and what did it teach you?
We will read that paragraph before we read your CV.
This position is open to people with disabilities.
